A fitness enthusiast from a young age, Allison’s yoga practice began over 20 years ago when working at a gym in the World Trade Center, it wasn’t’ until she sought refuge at a local NJ studio to find peace and quiet while dealing with PTSD did she begin to experience and understand the spiritual and emotional benefits of yoga and meditation. Over the years, she has turned to her practice again and again to heal from physical and emotional stress and injury.
After surgery for a herniated disc left her sidelined in 2009, her yoga practice took on new meaning with a focus on alignment and form to create stability while increasing flexibility and strength throughout the body and mind.
After 10 years of working in biotech, Allison left the stress of the corporate world to utilize her skills to open a Pet Sitting Business and start yoga teacher training.
Since becoming a yoga teacher in 2011, Allison has studied human movement in ernest. After a second back surgery in 2020, she is now even more focused on helping others work through the physical and emotional response of the fear, anxiety, and suffering that goes beyond the pain itself.
The classes she teaches embody both the physical and spiritual components of yoga, functional movement, and creating resilience body, mind, and spirit.
Allison owns Align Yoga and Strength (www.alignyogaandstrength.com); a boutique yoga studio in Matawan, NJ with a focus on helping people in pain improve their posture, decrease stress, and uproot old habits so they can find confidence and enjoy movement again. The studio has something to offer everyone including TRX yoga, Yoga w/ weights, Vinyasa, Pilates, Restorative Yoga, Private Yoga, Yoga Teacher Training, and Reiki.
When not practicing, she loves to spend time with her daughter & husband, play with her dog (and other people’s dogs), gardening, lifting weights and working out, read and people watch.
Allison received her 200 & 300-hour certification from Yoga Works of NYC. She is a Certified Yoga Tune Up Level 1 practitioner, Yin Level 1, Aroma-Restorative Yoga and Bee You Kids & Teen Yoga.

There are few places on Earth that offer a more relaxing, tranquil reprieve than Costa Rica. It's the perfect destination for us to begin our wellness journey, developing holistic health via yoga sessions, meditation, time in nature, and more. After our plane lands, we'll head to the charming town of Dominical for a quick stop that will allow us to grab some lunch and do a bit of shopping.
Following this, it's off to our retreat in Uvita, a sleepy and gorgeous community sat on the shores of the ocean. Fuel up with dinner and then head to a welcome circle where you'll trade introductions with your fellow travelers and begin setting your intentions. You may be surprised to see just how much you are able to manifest over the course of the retreat, and the first step towards that manifestation is clearly and optimistically stating your intentions. We'll end the day with a cacao ceremony, an ancient healing practice that will put you in the perfect state of mind to approach our wellness activities tomorrow.
Rise to a perfect morning in Uvita and get ready for a morning session of yoga and meditation! Once your body is feeling energized and your mind is clear, we'll grab breakfast and head to the beach. Here, we'll hike along the shore of the beautiful Playa Ventanas, soaking up the views and allowing the steady ebb and flow of the tide to once again bring us to a meditative, reflective state of mind. The rest of the day will be spent back at the retreat with gourmet meals and a suite of activities that you can enjoy. After lunch, consider going for a horseback ride where you can enjoy scenic views and a spiritual connection with majestic horses. You'll also enjoy free time in the afternoon and the opportunity to ease the tensions in your body through a massage. As the sun sets, enjoy a delectable dinner before a session of restorative, calming yoga to end the day.
Much like yesterday, today begins with meditation and yoga, preparing us for relaxation and sunshine. After breakfast, we make a trip to the local farmer's market to immerse ourselves in the local way of life. Sample some of the vibrant, healthy foods of Costa Rica and enjoy this holistic exploration.
Back at our retreat, we'll enjoy free time to sink further into relaxation before a gentle stretch and Yoga Nidra session. Those with an appetite for adventure can enjoy sea by going stand up paddle boarding. A highly healing and restorative process, this experience will help you release tension and stress, moving forward unencumbered both physically and mentally.
It's our last full day to enjoy the special energy of Costa Rica. We'll start the day by settling into a state of alignment in our morning meditation and yoga session before an adventure in the gorgeous wilderness of Uvita. We'll hike to a waterfall for some time to truly enjoy the beauty of the land. Once we reach the falls, we'll paint our bodies in blue clay to feel one with the environment and begin a powerful meditation that will help you identify any mental blocks that may be holding you back.
In the afternoon, we enjoy a sumptuous lunch followed by massages to rid ourselves of knots in our bodies and blockages to clarity. The day ends with a wonderful dinner, closing circle to solidify the connections we have made with one another in the days past, and a healing sound bath. You'll have a chance to say your goodbyes, reflect on the progress you've made, and make a plan for how you can continue your healing and growth after returning home.
Our Costa Rican wellness retreat reaches its conclusion today. Start the day with breakfast, each bite prompting a reflection on all that has been good on this five-day journey. We'll take you back to the airport so that you can catch your flight home and begin applying the lessons you've learned here to your daily life. Thanks so much for joining us!
