Velkominn! Upon your arrival at Keflavik Airport, you’ll be able to pick up your rental car and make your way to Reykjavik for a quick stopover. Then, embark on a self-drive sightseeing adventure through south Iceland to see some jaw-dropping highlights. For example, explore the 3,000-year-old Kerid volcanic crater — marvel at the beautiful lake and the incredible red volcanic rock that encompasses the caldera. You can also visit the mighty Skogafoss (“Forest Waterfall”) cascading at an astonishing 25 meters wide. Feel free to hike along the Skoga River and encounter other stunning waterfalls, including the lesser-known Kvernufoss, just a 30-minute walk from Skogafoss.
Meet at the starting location of your ATV tour 30 minutes before it begins. Your guide will take you on an unforgettable ATV (quad biking) adventure! Cross the stunning black lava sand landscape on a superb excursion and stop at the wrecked hull of the famous DC3 plane, which crashed in 1973. Marvel at surrounding views, then continue your journey along the black sand coast all the way to Dyrholaey, the southernmost part of Iceland famous for its iconic Dyrholaey Arch that was formed through centuries of erosion.
Meet at the starting point of your ice walk activity 30 minutes before it begins. Your guide will take you to Solheimajokull for an incredible glacier walk. The accessibility of Solheimajokull provides the perfect chance for anyone wanting to experience the unique terrain of a glacier. Encounter crevices, sinkholes, and volcanic sandhills along the way. A safety briefing will be included, where you will learn how to use the crampons and ice pick provided. After the tour, you are free to explore the region as you please for the rest of the evening.
After a day of non-stop adventure, it’s time to wind down. Have dinner in the village of Vik or somewhere on the road back east, then make your way to Midgard Base Camp, your accommodation for the night. Located in the small countryside town of Hvolsvollur, Midgard Base Camp is fitted with perfect communal facilities and is all about embracing a comfortable, intimate, and local vibe. After checking in, make yourself comfortable and relax for the evening.
Head to the rugged rhyolite landscapes of Landmannalaugar, found nestled beside the Laugahraun lava field and its sweeping expanse of dried magma. Marvel at the colors that greet you here — aesthetic shades of orange, red, pink, cream, blue, and gold make the region very special indeed. Known for its natural geothermal hot springs, you’ll get the chance to have a soothing bath after exploring the lava field. Remember to bring your swimwear if you plan to take a dip! Afterwards, make your way to Reykjavik and check into your hotel for the night.
Note: Guests leaving the next day will need to take their COVID-19 PCR test on this day. This will be done in Reykjavik in the early morning. After, make your way to Fagradalsfjall. Witness steam and lava pour from the fissure of this very-much-active volcano that has captivated thousands of people over the last few months. Still emitting fresh lava to this day, the volcano is an epic place for a once-in-a-lifetime hike!
After the volcano hike, you'll definitely look forward to a relaxing soak in the rejuvenating geothermal waters at the Sky Lagoon. Located just a short drive away from Reykjavik, the Sky Lagoon is the perfect place to relax and connect with your mind, body, and spirit. To make your experience even better, the infinity edges of the lagoon gives way to incredible views of the Atlantic Ocean! At the end of the day, return to Reykjavik for another overnight stay.
On your final day in Iceland, have a leisurely breakfast at the hotel before heading off to the airport for departure. Note: For guests staying an extra night in Reykjavik, explore your activity options in the “Optional add-on” section below.
