Hi, I’m Rachael, a ceramic artist based just outside of Bristol, in the South West of England. I discovered clay during an intensive pottery course in end of 2022 and fell completely in love with the process. Since then, I’ve been developing my practice as a self-taught artist, allowing curiosity to guide me.
My work plays with the balance between function and form, using slab building and wheel throwing as a foundation. I draw inspiration from brutalist and landscape architecture, dreamlike environments, and the nostalgic charm of 1970s mid-century design. I’m constantly observing how nature interacts with the built world, letting those contrasts and connections shape the pieces I create.
Art and travel have always been deeply connected in my life. They’re how I make sense of the world and my place in it. Hosting this retreat in Marrakech is a way for me to bring those two loves together—and invite you into the creative process.
This retreat is your chance to slow down, get messy, and reconnect with your hands, your ideas, and yourself. We’ll explore clay as a meditative and expressive practice, soaking in the rich culture, color, and texture of Morocco as inspiration.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or a seasoned maker, this is a space for curiosity, creativity, and connection. I can’t wait to share it with you.

-Take the rest of the night to head out into Marrakesh’s streets or take it easy before the rest of the action begins.
-Start your day with a nourishing breakfast at the riad before sitting down at the pottery wheel for a five-hour workshop. You’ll be deeply inspired by this space as you’ll get your hands dirty by turning and molding the clay and will learn more about the ceramic traditions of Morocco, such as tadelakt, which is an ancient Moroccan wall painting technique. Take inspiration from the local artisans to shape your own craft.
-Afterwards, break for lunch, return to your riad, and the rest of the afternoon is yours to wander through the medina’s decorated streets, perhaps spotting the very patterns you practiced earlier.
-Today is all about Marrakech’s medinas after you eat breakfast at the riad and then hop into a tour of the architectural jewels that make up the bustling medina. Wander the ornate halls of Bahia Palace, where zellige tilework and carved cedar ceilings showcase the epitome of Morocco’s deep appreciation for architecture. Then, step into the Ben Youssef Madrasa, once a center of learning, which is now a showcase of Islamic artistry complete with stuccoed walls and peaceful courtyards. As you explore, notice how ceramics and geometric patterns shape the city’s visual language.
-After the tour ends, head back to your riad to relax at the riad’s stunning pool or engage in other creative pursuits.
-After breakfast at the riad, learn the art of perfumery with a hands-on perfume workshop, where you’ll discover the art of scent creation and learn about fragrance notes, blending techniques, and the history of perfumery. Guided by an expert, smell a variety of essential oils as you craft signature scents.
-Once you’ve crafted the perfect scent, return to your riad and have the rest of the afternoon to move throughout Marrakech, perhaps to simply wander its bustling streets, shop for intricately decorated ceramics, or gain inspiration from the medina’s creative buzz and artistic backdrops.
-Wake up and clear your eyes for a new day in Marrakech! Upon waking up from your beauty sleep, enjoy breakfast at the riad before being whisked off for a day full of cobalt-blue beauty and lush greenery at Majorelle Garden, once the home of painter Jacques Majorelle and later restored by Yves Saint Laurent to its current glory. The garden oasis’ bold colors and exotic plants are a living canvas. You'll then pop over to the YSL Museum next door which highlights the designer’s deep connection to Moroccan style.
-Then, take a short drive out to the Agafay Desert for a camel trek where you’ll pass through naturally stunning landscapes under the Moroccan sun.
-As the sun starts to retreat into the sky, gather with your group for a farewell dinner at a luxury camp, where you’ll enjoy live entertainment and bask under the canopy of the stars. This is the perfect way to cap off a trip where Morocco’s natural artistry has come to life.
-Afterward, head back to Morocco for a chance to reflect on the highlights of the last few days and your Moroccan muses.
-Rise and shine! Taste the flavors of one last Moroccan meal as you check out of your riad and head to Marrakech Menara Airport (RAK) with your group, as you tug along the Moroccan art pieces that fill your bag. Swap numbers with the people in your group, as you never know what other creative journey can be around the corner.
