It’s so awesome to have you here in the city of Manaus, a place we are very excited to show you around. Situated on the north bank of the Negro River, this port city is nestled in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, 932 miles (1,500 kilometers) from the ocean! Once you arrive at the airport, we’ll pick you up and take you straight to your hotel. After checking in, don’t kick up your feet just yet! You have the rest of the day to explore Manaus on your own at your leisure! Discover what makes this city so unique; having the Amazon Rainforest so close means wildlife is plentiful, even within the city’s limits. In fact, Manaus is home to the pied tamarin, one of Brazil's most endangered primates. It was named Manaus’ mascot in 2005! Keep an eye out as you explore the city.
An incredible experience awaits you today. After a filling breakfast, you’ll be picked up at your hotel at around 8 am. We’ll arrive at the pier in time to embark on an epic boat trip to see the Meeting of Waters (Encontro das Aguas). Manaus is the site of this stunning natural phenomenon where two great rivers — the Rio Negro and the Solimoes River — come together but do not mix for several miles, instead flowing side-by-side due to their differing density. As the two rivers are such different colors, it's possible to see precisely where they meet. A sight to behold! We’ll navigate the waters from the port of Manaus to Lake Januari. Then, we will enjoy an immersive hike in the jungle to observe the local flora and wildlife such as the famous Vitoria Regia (giant water lily) and caimans. We’ll stop for lunch in the afternoon, then continue with an amazing piranha fishing session while watching out for lurking caimans as we cruise down the river. At about 4 pm, we’ll return to Manaus for a well-deserved rest!
Today, once you’ve had breakfast, you’re free to explore Manaus on your own. We recommend visiting the charming promenade of Ponta Negra, an affluent neighborhood in the West Zone of the city. You may also visit the city center to find the Amazonas Theater, which opened in 1896 and remains one of the most iconic landmarks in Manaus. The building represents the city at the height of the rubber boom, where all the wealth and grandeur is revealed in its art, halls and corridors. You can also discover the impressive architecture of the Amazonas Palace of Justice and see the charming Largo de São Sebastião monument.
Rise and shine! Following breakfast, enjoy a free morning at your leisure. Perhaps you’d like to head to the beach for some relaxation — don’t forget to grab a caipirinha while you chill to the sound of the ocean waves. Once evening arrives, we will take you out on a guided tour to enjoy Ponta Negra’s nightlife. Here, you’ll find several trendy restaurants and bars — a great place to kick off the night! After, we’ll head to the nightlife district in Vieiralves to discover several clubs and show houses featuring various music styles (pop, rock, pagode, to name a few). Some places require an entrance fee or cover charge (not included). Your guide will help the group to choose the best place to enjoy the night. After a spectacular night, we’ll take you back to the hotel at 2 am.
We hope you’ve enjoyed your wonderful adventure in Manaus and around the Amazon! After checking out of your accommodation, we’ll take you to the airport in time for your flight back home. Until next time — have a safe journey and we hope to see you again soon!
