Katherine practices and teaches yoga with an emphasis on becoming fit, as her beloved teacher Sharon Gannon puts it, to be an instrument of the divine. Katherine started to practice at the gym in summer 2013 then quickly found and fell in love with Jivamukti Yoga when she moved to New York City that fall. The spiritual magic and athletic asana practices of the lineage completely captured her heart and in the past decade she has studied extensively with her teachers in New York, Europe, and India. She feels blessed to teach the transformative Jivamukti method, which gives the practitioner a roadmap to integrated yoga lifestyle through vigorous vinyasa flows, plus five tenets of ahimsa (compassion), bhakti (devotion), nada (yoga of sound/mantra), dhyana (meditation), and sastra (scripture study). In her classes, Katherine offers authentic and playful insight on how to take the practices we learn on our mats into the real world. She weaves together supportive experiences of precise alignment and breath to eclectic, high vibe playlists, weaving in classical yoga philosophy, personal stories and examples, plus if you’re lucky, bad jokes. She plays harmonium and is a joyful kirtan singer. She is kind, humble, humorous, and relatable as a teacher.

-Before the evening comes to a close, attend a welcome program where you can form bonds with your fellow travelers, which includes brief introductions, Kirtan, and intention setting.

Day 2
An Auspicious Beginning

-Today begins a bit later so you can rest after the long travel. We start our day with a meditation session, asana practice, and an introduction to the Bhagavad Gita. Students are encouraged to come with some knowledge of the text, this discussion will ensure we are all on the same page to begin our 'Crossing the Ocean' inquiry.

-After a filling brunch, the day is yours to explore Bali and enjoy its many colors, sights, and sensations. Rest, read, reflect, enjoy activities like traditional Balinese bodywork in the onsite spa, beach cleaning/exploring, relaxing by the pool. Use today to begin to feel comfortable and pass your jetlag.

-Enjoy dinner with the group and close out the night with Kirtan and meditation.

Day 3
Setting the Stage: Dive into 'The Ocean'

-We start the day in an extended yoga class that will feature an array of modalities such as detoxifying Kriya, Asana, Meditation, and an exploration: 'Who or What is Krishna?'

-Rather than free time in the afternoon, you will attend an afternoon program that will allow you to more deeply explore your practice with Kirtan and a philosophical discussion titled: ‘The Material Ocean.’

-When the sun begins to set, we will gather for dinner and meditation.

Day 4
Moving into Spirit

-Rise in the morning and attend a group meditation followed by brunch. Eat up, as this will fuel you for the rest of the day!

-The entire morning is free. You can walk around the property, head to the beach, or try out a spa treatment. You can also book an optional temple tour to connect with the spirit of the island. We will explore Gunung Kawi, Mengening Temple, & Tirta Empul Temple.

-In the early evening, participate in an Asana class with Kirtan before closing out the day with dinner, followed by meditation.

Day 5
Expanding Towards Bliss: Divine Knowledge

-Today is completely centered around movement and meditation to ground our bodies and minds. We begin with a morning session before brunch.

-In the afternoon, release tension with a Restorative Yoga class, followed by a reading of the Bhagavad Gita.

-Finally, dinner, Kirtan, and meditation will calm our energy levels and allow us to peacefully rest for the night.

Day 6
A Heavenly Place

-Today is based around a schedule of delicious meals, yoga, and free time. Start your morning with an optional sunrise hike or hang back and move at your own pace.

-You can use your open afternoon to truly absorb the beauty of Bali. Let the treasures of this sacred island fill you with awe and inspiration.

-The day closes with evening yoga, Kirtan, and meditation, followed by a delicious local dinner.

Day 7
Returning, Transformed

-For our final day, we begin with Kriya, Asana practice, yoga philosophy, and meditation, stepping into the day with intention. We may now approach the world with a new vision and renewed commitment to our own inner divinity and will discuss applying these ideas not only to extraordinary island vacation time, but the times that appear to be very mundane, ordinary, or challenging as well.

-Enjoy a break for brunch, then come back together for Kirtan, a Q&A session, and group reflection, a time to consider all we have done this week.

-Attend a cooking class where we will celebrate the end of our retreat by learning fun recipes and tapping into a free-spirited, creative energy, along with savoring the food we lovingly prepared.

-Close out our last full day with Kirtan and meditation.

Day 8
Depart from Bali

-Awaken to our final morning in Bali with yoga, meditation, and a closing Kirtan ceremony.

-Indulge in a delicious brunch to get you ready for a day of travel.

-After a bit of free time, we will check out and return to the airport so you can fly home....or you can go from Denpasar to your next destination in Bali. Katherine plans to return to the USA March 27 but can offer recommendations on where to go next.

-Safe travels! We will see you next time.
