Details

Day 1

Welcome to Tasmania — breathe in the cleanest air in the world and get ready to explore Hobart!

Hobart welcomes you with open arms! Upon arriving at the airport, you’ll be picked up by your guide and transferred to your accommodation in the city. Hobart is Tasmania’s bustling capital city and the second-oldest capital in Australia after Sydney. Located at the entrance to the Derwent River, the city is surrounded by well-preserved bushland and beaches that line the shores of the river and estuary beyond. Here, you’ll find a contrasting blend of heritage, scenery, and culture, with plenty of activities and attractions nearby, not to mention a world-class food and wine scene. Depending on your time of arrival, you can spend some time exploring Hobart. Your guide can take you around to visit the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens or the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) before you enjoy a special welcome dinner with your companions. We highly suggest grabbing a sunset drink at The Glass House, which offers sweeping waterfront views of Sullivan's Cove.

Day 2

Head out on a guided winery tour of the fantastic Southern Wine Trail

Rise and shine! Today, you’ll be heading out to explore the Southern Wine Trail. After a hearty breakfast, your guide will pick you up from your accommodation to begin your exciting tour of the vineyards in the surrounding areas. Fun fact: Vineyards are closer to the city of Hobart than to any other capital city in all of Australia! The region is known for its picturesque beauty, and the Derwent, Huon, and Coal River Valleys together comprise this sprawling Southern Wine Trail — a route you’ll be spending all day exploring with your guide. Note: Costs for wine tastings are not included.

Day 3

Discover the magic of Coles Bay — explore Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay

After breakfast and checking out of your Hobart accommodation, it’s time to say goodbye to the city and head north to Coles Bay. Coles Bay is a popular seaside holiday village that sits beneath stunning granite mountains overlooking the shimmering waters of Oyster Bay. Many regard Coles Bay as a perfect base from which to explore the picturesque Freycinet National Park and the spectacular Wineglass Bay. Once you arrive, you can use the afternoon to start exploring. Some options include embarking on a Wineglass Bay Cruise (see optional add-ons section) or walking to Wineglass Bay Lookout with your guide and either looping back via Hazards Beach or returning to Coles Bay to explore it further.

Day 4

Visit the East Coast Natureworld sanctuary for wildlife and check out the scenic Apsley River Waterhole

This morning, after an energizing breakfast, you’ll head 30 minutes north to the family-friendly holiday town of Bicheno, home of Tasmania's premier natural wildlife and ecology park, East Coast Natureworld. Here, you’ll be able to see some of the region’s most treasured wildlife. Set on 150 acres of natural parkland and lagoons, this sanctuary is home to Tasmanian devils, quolls, koalas, snakes, and parrots. Continuing on your journey, you’ll head into the Douglas Apsley National Park to check out the scenic Apsley River Waterhole, a tranquil waterhole surrounded by wooded banks and cliffs. After a leisurely exploration, you’ll head further north to St. Helens to grab some lunch.

Arrive at the famous Bay of Fires, one of Tasmania’s most iconic places

Your next destination is the wonderful Bay of Fires, where you’ll have the opportunity to explore the spectacular scenery. One of Tasmania’s most beautiful sights, the Bay of Fires is known for its striking orange lichen-covered rocks, which contrast spectacularly with the coast’s turquoise waters. This 50-kilometer stretch of bush-fringed shore is home to some of Australia’s most iconic animals. Take one of the walking trails that skirt the water’s edge and you might just encounter adorable wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas, wombats, Tasmanian devils, or wedge-tailed eagles! Or, if you prefer exploring the waters, go on an optional Eco Tours cruise for the best opportunity to spot local marine life, including dolphins, fur seals, and migrating whales. At the end of the day, enjoy striking sunset views from the perch of the ‘Lone Tree’ of Binalong Bay before heading back to St. Helens for the night.

Day 5

See the lavender fields at Bridestowe Lavender Farm, explore the ‘Tin Dragon’ Trail, and arrive in Launceston

From St. Helens, we travel west towards Launceston, Tasmania's second major city. On the way, you’ll have the chance to stop at the lovely Bridestowe Lavender Farm and check out the beautiful lavender fields. This is one of the most Instagrammed sights in all of Tasmania! Next, we’ll be traveling the ‘Tin Dragon’ Trail to see the historic towns of Branxholm, Derby, and Weldborough. In the late 1800s, tin was discovered in Tasmania's northeast, attracting thousands of miners. Learn about the history of the region as you make your way through the trail. Finally, once we arrive in Launceston, you can enjoy the rest of the day at your own pace. Launceston is a vibrant hub for food, wine, culture, and nature. Step into one of the many cafes and boutique stores in town, walk along the Tamar River, or explore a few museums and art galleries in your free time.

Day 6

Enjoy the best wines that Tamar Valley has to offer

Today, it’s all about the wine once more. After breakfast, you’ll be going on a winery tour through Tamar Valley, Tasmania's oldest wine region. It has to be said — the Tamar Valley Wine Trail has a reputation for being one of the best in the world! With over 30 vineyards located in the region, you can expect nothing but a spectacular day out indulging in all the best wines today. Unleash your inner wine connoisseur, learn about winemaking techniques from the vineyard owners, and even pick up a few award-winning bottles for yourself to enjoy. After your excursion out in Tamar Valley, you’ll return to Launceston to enjoy the rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 7

Head to Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park and discover the beauty of Tasmania’s wilderness

After breakfast, we say goodbye to Launceston and head through the sub-alpine moorlands of the Central Plateau Conservation Area, stopping at the scenic Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm on the way. Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm is a fully-operational raspberry farm with an on-site cafe that features a beautiful setting by a pond. After our break, we’ll continue to Cradle Mountain. Once we arrive, you’ll get the chance to explore the village through various short walks around the Cradle Mountain Interpretation Centre. Some walks we recommend include the King Billy Track, Waterfalls Walk (to see Pencil Pine Falls and Knyvet Falls), Speeler Track, Dove Canyon Track, and Crater Lake Track. You can also choose to book an optional activity such as a spa treatment at Waldheim Alpine Spa or a wine and cheese tasting session at Peppers Lodge — just let us know what you’d like to do and we’ll help you book everything in advance.

Day 8

Discover the magic of Strahan through some optional activities

Good morning! After breakfast, you’ll be heading to the small town of Strahan, situated on the west coast. You’ll have the opportunity to choose from a couple of optional activities. These are the River and Rainforest Wilderness Railway Tour (a diesel train journey that takes you from the shores of Macquarie Harbour into the rainforest and mountains of Tasmania’s rugged west coast) or a Gordon River Cruise (which departs from Strahan Wharf). See the optional add-ons section below for more details. For dinner, please note that Strahan is a small town with limited late-night dining options — especially on a Sunday. View 42 and Risby Cove are your two best options, but try to arrive before 8 pm.

Day 9

Journey back to the east coast and arrive in Tasmania’s capital city once more

Today, we’ll journey back to the city of Hobart. While we’ll be covering a great distance — about 300 kilometers — there will be a couple of stops along the way to keep you wide awake with anticipation, including a visit to the historic estate of the Tarraleah Highlands, home to a resident herd of Scottish Highland cows. Here, you might want to try your hand at some cow feeding or go on one of the scenic Tarraleah walks in the region and admire the stunning wilderness. Once we reach Hobart, you are free to enjoy the evening in your own leisure.

Day 10

Take a day trip to Bruny Island to enjoy the freshest local produce and see rare wildlife

It’s your last day in Tasmania! To make it extra special, you’ll be exploring the popular Bruny Island today. Your guide will pick you up and take you to Kettering, where you’ll then embark on a ferry to get to Bruny Island. Once there, discover some gourmet delights and meet the local producers. Here, you’ll find everything from the freshest seafood to the most succulent berries. Soak in the island’s breathtaking scenery when you visit the Bruny Island Neck Lookout, visit the historic Two Tree Point, and explore the white-sand beaches and nature reserves where rare white wallabies live. After discovering this bountiful island, it’s time to head home. After taking the ferry back to the mainland, your guide will drop you at Hobart Airport. We recommend booking a late afternoon departure flight for this day. Optionally, we are happy to book a post-night to your tour — just let us know!
